My Two Weeks With Marilyn...

After watching the film "my Week with Marilyn", I was inspired to do a post on Marilyn personal and performance style and how to emulate it, using closet staples already in your closet, or great everyday pieces every girl should own from my favorite Pin Up Girl website. Pin Up Girl Clothing has always served as great inspiration and so have to founders of the ever popular site, Laura Byrnes and Micheline Pitt. Their pieces are not only classic vintage inspired styles from the 1940's to the 1960's, but also convey a powerful message that no matter what your size, style is for everyone (their sizes go up to a 4X ). The true inspiration for this post came from the Niagra Dress. I was trolling through some photos of Marilyn when I stumbled upon of photo of the beauty in a red/pink cut-out dress that I had to have. I made an instagram plea to both Laura and Micheline to make this gorgeous frock. Turns out, they already do! In a variety of colors too! I hope you enjoy this little post, and have been ever more inspired to do these for some of my other favorite fashion icons as well. Let me know what you think. -R.
The dress that started it all.

Unfortunately I could not find a white one piece on Pin Up Girl's website, but this classic version from Mod Cloth is perfect. comes in up to size 16, this Bathing Beauty by Esther Williams is white hot like Marilyn's. $89.99

I cannot imagine a more accurate look than with The Monica Dress by Laura Byrnes. The Seven Year Itch was the very first Marilyn film I ever saw and is still a favorite. The sexy white beaded dress she wears in the picture is the epitome of cool girl glamour.

The Garden Party Dress by Dixiefried in white sateen, minus the beading, is so close to the original worn by Marilyn Monroe. In sizes up to 2X and a steal at $116.00

Even in top form! Perfect for a more casual look, The Deadly Dames Voodoo Vixen top in White is bust enhancing and versatile. In sizes up to 2Xand $62.00!!

This bad-gal version from Deadly Dames is sexy and cute with optional skull pin, daring high collar and black waist cinching belt. This Wiggle Dress comes in sizes up to 2X and is $102.00

Here with Arthur Miller, Marilyn epitomizes sophisticated cool in a simple (what I'm presuming as black) elegant dress.

The Amelia Dress with matching black jacket from  Pin Up Couture is a classic LBD and has the same elegance and sophistication as well as cool girl points as Marilyn's.Up to 2X. $142.00

The Jayne 1960's Sheath Wiggle Dress is a sexier version, but still just as classic and classy. Up to 2X. $110.00

The Deadly Dames Vamp Dress, much like the Top, is a sexy classic and closet staple for any sophisticate with attitude. up to 2X. $110.00

Gentleman Prefer Blondes is a classic! I adore this film and the best part of all is watching Marilyn singing the iconic song in iconic Pink!

While the Niagra Dress is hot pink is perfect for this look, the real drama lies in the all new Voodoo Vixen Dress in Pink Lame' by Deadly Dames. While this hot item is not available to order quite yet, there is a wait list option (what are you waiting for?) Up to 2X and $160.00

Another sweet option for more of an everyday look is the Deadly Dames Capri Pants in Hot Pink. Up to 2X. $82.00

For her role in Misfits Marilyn kept it simple is a white peasant top, high waisted jeans and classic riding boots.

The Carpenter Capris in Denim by Bettie Page Clothing are an everyday staple for every girl and go up to a size 4X! While these pants are cute, they are also durable and make the $124.00 price tag well worth the splurge.

Red was a staple in Marilyn's wardrobe, from lipstick to shoes to dresses to tops. Red is sexy and yet still sophisticated.

For a fun dose of red in your wardobe try the Peasant Top in Red. Up to 2X. $56.00

Whether she was shining on the big screen for glowing in her garden, Marilyn is not an icon for me because she was beautiful of famous or sexy. She was an iconic because she was Norma Jean with freckles and imperfections, yet she shined with those imperfections. She was human and real. She was a beautiful soulful woman who grew wanting to be a star, and she was, proving everyone wrong.  I hope you enjoyed these looks. Please let me know if there are any other stars you'd like me to feature on my page. I'm doing a Cry Baby and Audrey Hepburn post next. Love your comments and opinions!!. -R
